(New York, NY: July 26, 2021); Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry (OCPM), the national prison ministry of the Orthodox Church, recently held its “Prison Ministry Awareness Sunday” on July 25.

“OCPM is grateful to the hundreds of priests and church secretaries across the United States that helped us get the word out about Prison Ministry Awareness Sunday, and to the Orthodox faithful who donated on that day,” said Niko Petrogeorge, Executive Director of OCPM.

“It is so critical to educate our parishioners about our unique ministry,” he continued.
“Every year we hear from people sitting in the pews who did not know there was a prison ministry that represents the Orthodox Church. Family members find strength knowing that their loved ones in prison are not forgotten by the Church. Many discover OCPM for the first time on this important Sunday.”

The mission of Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry is to serve those who are incarcerated and their families, and provides resources, training and support to our ministry partners so that lives are transformed and God is glorified. Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry (OCPM) is an agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States. For Orthodox Christians who have been arrested for crimes, OCPM helps them return to the Faith, offering forgiveness and reconciliation with Christ. For both Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike, OCPM provides spiritual care, enabling prisoners to find hope and purpose in their lives.
